Ozone O3 is a gas discovered in the 1800’s. Ozone has been heavily studied for over 150 years, especially after Nikola Tesla created and patented the first ozone generator in 1896. Its effects are proven, consistent and safe when used properly. It inactivates bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeasts and protists. Ozone also stimulates oxygen metabolism and the immune system. During WWI, doctors and surgeons became familiar with the antimicrobial properties of ozone. It not only demonstrated antimicrobial effect on infected wounds, it also had blood clotting and anti-inflammatory effects.

Ozone stimulates red blood cell glucose metabolism, producing 2,3-diphosphoglycerate. This further leads to RBC’s increased supply of oxygen to tissues, and in turn increases mitochondrial energy production. Ozone also increases glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase production, leading to a reduction of free radicals.

Ozone increases prostacyclin, a blood vessel dilator, leading to lowered blood pressure and decreased bleeding to vessel injuries.

Ozone between 30-55 gauss (ug/cc) leads to the greatest increase in interferon and tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-2 production. Interleukin-2 leads to an increase in the immune system.
